It all began when the wizards of the White League were under attack by their opponents of the Black League and one of their most powerful members cast a spell to bring forth a mighty wizard to aid their cause. What the spell delivered was master hacker Walter Wiz Zumwalt. The wizard who east the spell was dead and nobody—not the elves, not the dwarves, not even the dragons—could figure out what the shanghaied computer nerd was good for. But spells are a lot like computer programs, and, in spite of the Wiz's unprepossessing appearance, he was going to defeat the all-powerful Black League, win the love of a beautiful red-haired witch, and prove that when it comes to spells and sorcery, nobody but nobody can beat a Silicon Valley computer geek!

Very good classical fantasy writing, with a nice taste of nerdiness. The writer, Rick Cook, has a very good vocabulary - don't be ashamed if you have to look some words up. The writing flows very well, and the plot is pretty well-developed. It mixes classical fantasy - elves and dragons, "my Lord" and "my Lady" - with modern (well, 70's to 90's) hacker culture. It's very interesting, and quite well done. If you know what Unix and FORTH are, you'll enjoy this component of this book.
Overall, I do heartily recommend this collection of the first two books.
My only gripe is the poor editing - occasionally, some punctuation is messed up. It is uncommon, maybe once every 10 or 20 pages at minimum Kindle print size, but it can be glaring at times. I recommend it nonetheless. I know I'll be getting the next two books.

The Wiz Biz Wizardry Series combo volumes Book 1 eBook Rick Cook Reviews
Yes, I enjoyed this story very much. As a software engineer it gave me a lot of thinking about how I would handle things. hehehee. If you like a bit of magic thrown in with your logic, you will enjoy this one. I especially loved the later parts, with more programmers involved. Very fun read.
Great book, especially if you know the basics of Software development and low level languages.
I read this a number of years ago… And had forgotten how much I had enjoyed it. It was a great opportunity to revisit a great story and enjoy the fantasy once again. If you have not read this before it is well worth the time.
A good read ( if you over look the misspelling, etc ) and make sure you VERIFY the following offers of other combo's in this series. Also their has been no update on if/when the other titles will be released in Ebook form.
"The Wiz Biz" and the sequal "Wiz Biz II Cursed and Consulted", about a Silicon Valley programmer transported into a world where magic exists, are fun and compelling. It's a clever idea and it is well, if not artfully, executed. The characters are types, but not stereotypes. The author, Rick Cook, while creating a beautiful, buxom mate for his main character, rises well above the kind of stereotype that would confine the audience for these books to young men. The world is well imagined and there's lots of humor. The more you know about about programming and the computer world the more in jokes you'll catch but there's plenty there for the merely peripherally geeky. Business schools could assign these books as a intro text to illustrate the reality of consulting, the pitfalls of charging in with a "great solution" before reviewing the current environment, the importance of considering the long term consequences before acting and the importance of creative thinking.
A good summer read.
I like Rick Cook, and his approach to the, "suddenly, DRAGONS" genre is pretty enjoyable.
Side note, though the version is full of machine read errors.
"...polished off his half of the pizza while Moira finished her first shoe".
Slice. If you squint, you can see the misconnection. Tons of those.
Otherwise, no complaints!
I love these books. During a recent move, I lost my copy of Wizard's Bane, the first book in this wonderfull series. I was very sad when I found out it was out of print. Then I saw this book on . The first 2 books in the series, reprinted together! I bought it, read it, and almost burned it. The editing is so horible, it almost ruins the story. Paragraphs run together, or are split for no apparent reason. Quotation marks and other punctuation are missing, extra, or in the wrong place. In some places text is repeted. The editor who let this piece of unmitigated junk go to print aught to be exiled to Siberia. This story is a must read, but only buy this book if there is no way you can get your hands on a copy of the original printing.
